Bulbophyllum maximum (Lindl.) Rchb. f. 1861, was ID in the exhibit as Bulb. oxypetalum
I saw this orchid in the 2016 Puerto Rico orchid society show in the Rio Piedras Botanical Garden. This plant has a strange otherworldly look with its large flattened inflorescences on the sides of which the tiny flowers are produced. Given that the flowers were pretty much invisible from a distance, I have to give thanks to the PR Orchid Society which gave me permission to enter the exhibit to give a close up to the tiny flowers. The plant body of this orchid is hardly distinct from many other Bulbophyllum species, but the inflorescences are outstandingly weird looking in a genus where weird infloresences are common. The plant is mounted on a tree fern plaque and is doing well. The massive inflorescences dwarf the plant body and, to the uninitiated, look utterly unorchid like.

A different clone of Epi, Snow Fantasy x Encyclia alata
This clone has larger flowers |
The first bloom flower of my plant. |
In the Christmas meeting of the Orquidistas de Puerto Rico, I saw in bloom a clone of this orchid that is different from mine. The flowers are larger, the segments elongated and it has a slight yellow tint. The plant however was larger than mine, so it may be that my plant still has some growing to do before it can produce bigger flowers.

Coelogyne ovalis
This orchid was seen at the
Mayaguez Orchid Festival of September 2013.
This was a large plant with several flowers open at the same time. I have seen a number of specimen plants of Coelogyne ovalis in shows in Puerto Rico. I have observed a variation in the size of
the flowers of different plants, some have flowers that are significantly
larger than others.

Rlc. Haadyai Delight ‘Bangprom Gold’ a cadmiun yellow Cattleya hybrid
I saw this orchid at the October 2013 Mayaguez Orchid
Festival. The plant won an award from
the AOS. The flowers were cadmium yellow,
you got to love that color description.
The flowers were large and had good texture. The flowers were just a bit less than six
inches tall and wide, which gave the flower a nice round shape. The presentation of the sepals and petals was
also very good.
