Grammatoheadia Boynton Leopard, my plant that has the largest flowers and inflorescences

When I brought this plant I decided to buy three plants because I wanted the see the variation of the flowers. One plant, the one on this photos, produces large inflorescences with deeply colored flowers.   Another produces smaller flowers on shorter inflorescences, the last one bloomed and then deteriorated and almost died.  All are cultivated the same way and were grown on the same spot.

Brassia "Waiomao Spotless" and Brassia Rex "Sakata"

These two Brassias bloomed at the same time but are different in various ways.  In contrast to "Waiomao spotless', which for me is a slow and deliberate grower, Brassia Rex 'Sakata' is a veritable weed that grows well with minimal care and can gallop across pots and baskets because its vigorous growth habits.  Both hybrids are well worth growing, although my favorite is 'Waiomao' because of its larger flowers and elegant presentation of the inflorescence.  Both are fragrant.  

Tolumnia Red Barry

This plant was brought to the meeting of AOS judges in Ponce, Puerto Rico in April 10, 2016.   Home Depot stores have been bringing Tolumnia for sale since a few years ago.  Every time I pass by them I am tempted to buy.

Renanthera Kalsom x Ascocenda Varut Fucshia

I saw this plant at the 2016 Puerto Rico Orchid Society show.  What I found interesting about this plant is that the flowers were a delightful fuchsia color instead of the usual red that is the rule in Renanthera hybrids.  The plant was large and had many flowers.  Unfortunately the way it was put in the exhibit made it difficult to photograph the flowers and impossible to get a good photo of the inflorescence.

Lysudamuloa Red Jewel (Lycamerlycaste Geyser Gold x Angulocaste Red Jade}

This type of hybrid is not commonly seen in Puerto Rico.  The plants that were for sale sold out pretty quickly.  In my experience tropical Lycastes grow and bloom well in Puerto Rico.  However the larger flowered Lycaste species and hybrids are only grown by a few growers in the areas mountainous areas of PR where the climate is cooler and humid.   I It is a pleasant departure from the usual yellow color of the Lycastes that are commonly grown in PR.  I will be paying close attention to see how these plants fare under the care of local hobbysts.

Ascocenda (Lena Kamolphun x Betty May Steel)

Seen at the 2016 Puerto Rico Orchid Society show in the Jardin Botanico de Rio Piedras.

Myrmetonia ( Schombonia ) Summertime (Myrmecophila tibicinis x Broughtonia sanguinea)

I saw this orchid at the 2016 Puerto Rico Orchid Society show.  The plant is large, the flowers are produced at the end of long inflorescences that however are not as long as those of the Myr. tibicinis parent.  

Paphiopedilum Prince Edward of York

This orchid was exhibited at the 2016 Puerto Rico Orchid Society show.  It is a large plant with elegant flowers.  I have always admired it.  I brought one seedling of this cross, but somehow it lost its tag.  Now it is with the others lost tag Paphiopedilum in my collection.  Hopefully it will bloom someday.
